Organising Your Childs Party
If you are reading this it is safe to assume that you are close to purchsing a
party theme for your childs birthday party. Before completing the purchase we thought it would be worthwhile outlining a few points regarding the organisation of the party.
You may have organised many parties or feel that you have everything under control but there is never any harm in taking 5 mins just to make sure you have everything covered.
Party Planning : 5 Weeks Before The Party
The first thing you have to decide is the party location. Children tend to change their minds regularly in the build up to a party but if you are planning on hosting the party outside your home then a decision will need to be made in plenty of time.
Popular party locations are booked well in advance so if your child is thinking of using one of those locations then you really need to make the booking in good time.
Party Planning : 3 Weeks Before The Party
With three weeks to go you should be confirming the total number of guests and if possible the names. When planning a party guest list it is always safe to assume that some people will be unable to attend, however in the case of a childs party this can actually work to your advantage.
If you are a parent that has the time to pick your child up from school then it is always a good idea to ask the other mums and carers if they will be able to attend. By talking to other parents you will also find out very quickly if the party clashes with any other events or indeed another party.
Confirming the numbers will also give you a chance to decide on additional help if the guest list seems large. When hosting a party for 1 - 3 three year olds it is always wise to have plenty of help. Younger children will need more attention especially when it comes to the party food.
Party Planning : 10 Days Before The Party
With ten days to go we advise that you place orders for the party plates, cups, decorations etc. Usually these will be delivered in a matter of days but it is always advisable to order early just in case there are any postal delays. Online shops such as Bestbirthdays will stock all you require so the organisation of party supplies can be completed from the comfort of your own home or work place.
When purchasing the party themed tableware and decorations you should also purchase the party bag fillers unless you plan to make them yourself or have purchased them already.
Party Planning : 2 Days Before The Party
At this stage you should be confirming exact numbers which means calling any parents who have not responded. This will help when preparing the party bags and the cake, which we recommend you also do at this stage. If you prepare the party bags in advance they can look "crumpled" come party day even if you take great care storing them.
We therefore recommend the use of party boxes. Traditionally these have been used for food but when decorated with a few stickers and filled with goodies they look fantastic and are perfect replacements. Party boxes come in preprepared options as well.
Party Planning : 1 Day Before The Party
If you have time the day before you should do as much preparation as possible. This includes finishing the birthday cake and preparing as much of the food as possible. For example rice crispy cakes can be prepared in advance.
When the kids have gone to bed then the decorating can begin. Kids enjoy putting up the party decorations but they will enjoy them even more when they come down in the morning. The birthday boy / girl will know the big day has arrived and the surprise is sure to generate a great deal of excitment.
Party Planning : The Party Day Itself
Prepare as much of the food as possible early in the day. If you are hosting the party outside your house then you will need to confirm the numbers with the venue caterers. Some venues allow you to bring your own food in which case you will need boxes and trays to transport the food.

At the end of every party it is traditional to hand the guests a going home present. As the party ends and the parents arrive to collect their children it can all get a bit chaotic, so be sure to have your party bags and presents well organised.
As with all items relating to your childs party, the party bags can be as simple or elaborate as you want. In some cases a simple well presented party bag is recieved with a lot more enthusiasm than a standard themed party bag crammed with party bag fillers.
To help norrow your decisions we have outlined some options you may wish to consider when preparing party bags.
1. Prepare the Party Bags Yourself.
Depending on the amount of time you have and your ability in the arts and crafts area this option could be a pleasure or a trauma. Basically it requires making the party bags from scratch. There is no standard template to work from. The bags themselves can be as simple as brown paper bags. This leaves great scope for decorating the bag, for example you can get your children to customise
each party bag with glitter, bows, and ribbons or whatever else takes your fancy. Basically each party bag is a blank canvas. Small boxes like those used for jewelry can also be used.
2. Themed Party Bags
This option can be the easiest. In each of our party themes there is a great selection of party bag fillers. This option is easy, quick and affordable.
3. Party Bags & Craft Activities
All parties have some form of organised activity whether it is a football game or a craft activity such as painting. If you plan to entertain the party guests with a craft activity then it is worth considering the option of including the output of that activity as part of the party bag present. For example painting dinosaurs is one of our most popular party games and make great party bag fillers.
4. Party Bags & Special Occassions
There are other landmark occassions in a child's life apart from a birthday, and over the past few years these occassions are been celebrated with increased vigour. Holy Communion is a good example of such an occassion. After the formalities of the day are completed it is not unusual for a party to be held. The party guest list is likely to include children. Not only will you need to organise appropriate food but consideration should also be given to a party bag. This can be a little more difficult as the ages of the children attending may cover a wide spectrum. This should not deter you as there are party bags and presents suitable for all ages in our on-line shop.
Christening parties also fall into this category and if there are children aged 0-9 in attendance then serious consideration should be given to assembling a party bag. Something as simple as a helium filled balloon can do the trick.
5. Party Bags & First Birthdays
A first birthday celebration is very special particularly if it is for a first child. Some people prefer a low key event where just close family attend a small celebration. The other option is to host a large party for friends and family.
